What is Pokémon TCG anyway?
The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is a collection card game in which players collect, exchange and use Pokémon cards to play against each other. But a large part of the community doesn't even play the game actively.
There are roughly three types of collectors:
1. Open packs for fun
Many people buy booster packs simply because it's fun to open them. The tension of a possible hit . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
2. Collecting cards/Graded cards
Other collectors focus on specific goals:

. Complete Sets
. Collecting special cards such as full doctor, SIRS or vintage cards
3. Collect Sealed
Some collectors collect sealed Pokémon products, such as:

These remain unopened because sealed products become rarer over time and you can exchange them for cards you would not otherwise have been able to pay.

If you just start collecting Pokémon cards you will encounter all kinds of products. These are the most important ones:
Booster packs
A Pokémon booster pack usually contains 10 cards. This is the basis of the TCG and the cheapest way to open packs.
Elite Trainer Boxes
A Pokémon ETB is one of the most popular products. This includes multiple packs plus accessories such as sleeves, dice and energy cards. There are even more exclusive ETBs with a Pokemon Center stamp on them, which are only sold in the US, Canada and UK on the Pokemon center website, and you must have an address in that country where you order to be able to buy.
Boosterboxes/Booster bundles
A Pokémon booster box usually contains 36 booster packs. For many collectors this is the best way to open a set. This product is also most popular for many sealed collectors. Booster bundles are small cardboard boxes with 6 packets, smaller than an ETB and only 3 packets less. If you only want to open packages, they are more advantageous than a collection box or etb. There are no promotional cards in these bundles.
Collection boxes and tins
These are boxes with promo cards and booster packs, often based on a specific Pokémon.
For beginners, an ETB or a few single booster packs is usually the best start.

Why Pokémon restocks disappear so quickly
Many people wonder why Pokémon cards are sold out so quickly. This is usually due to a combination of:
huge demand for popular sets, small store restocks, return products that come online again, people who actively follow restocks and of course... scalpers.

Most collectors are strongly opposed to scalpers and that's a good thing, it ruins the hobby and makes products priceless for people who just step into the hobby.
Fortunately there are also communities that try to keep the hobby fairer and more fun.
How communities help against scalpers
Many collectors use stock monitors nowadays: systems giving notifications when Pokémon products come back to stock at webshops. We're not talking about automatic systems that directly buy out the entire webshop, but monitors that report when there's stock. You have to add the product to your basket (sometimes there is the option via the Discord to automatically add 1 or 2 products to your basket) and checkout.

Besides collecting online are (Pokémon) fairs a great way to experience the hobby in real life. In the Netherlands and Belgium, TCG fairs and Pokémon collective fairs are increasingly organized where collectors meet.
On a Pokémon scholarship you can for example: Buy loose cards, find sealed products, swap cards with other collectors, view PSA/graded cards and meet new people from the community!
Many collectors go to fairs to find that one card for their collection. Sometimes there are vintage cards, sometimes just modern hits from recent sets.
Besides, it's just cozy:
you see people opening packs, comparing collections, and of course there's a lot of talk about new sets and pulls.
And the best part?
At fairs, you usually meet real collectors not only people who try to sell everything at a double price.
