Bizarre promo: Heinz releases Pikachu ketchup in Japan

Yeah, you read it right. Heinz and Pokémon have joined forces for a striking promo: ketchup bottles with Pikachu on the label.

And fair is fair: If one Pokémon is that belongs to a ketchup bottle, then it is Pikachu.

Three different Pikachu bottles

The cooperation comes from Japan and consists of three different collectible designs with Pikachu on the famous red Heinz label. The ketchup itself is just the same as always, only the packaging is special.

The bottles cost approximately 421 yen (approximately €2,50) and are temporarily in Japanese stores.

The only small problem: You can don't choose which design you getso if you want to collect all three of them, you got to be a little lucky.

Why Pikachu and ketchup?

This is actually an old Pokémon meme. In an episode of the Pokémon anime from 1998 Pikachu became obsessive in love with ketchup and he started eating it straight out of the bottle.

Since then, that joke has regularly appeared in merchandise and fan content.

Collecting object?

For Pokémon collectors this is exactly the kind of item that can become interesting:

  • limited promo
  • Pikachu
  • Japanese exclusive release

In other words: chances that some fans will never open this bottle.

Of course, it's just... ketchup.
