Who regularly Pokémon buys, sells or exchanges cards, knows the problem: You want to know quickly which card you have, what it is currently worth and whether a trade is interesting. Especially during fairs, card shows and Trade Nights you don't always have time to search different websites.
MarketDex trying to put all those features together in one app. With the app you can scan Pokémon cards, view current market prices, compare trades and even use special tools for sellers and vendors.
MarketDex is now available for iOS and Android.
What is MarketDex?
MarketDex is a TCG app for collectors, traders and sellers. The basis of the app is a AI Pokémon card scanner. You aim the camera of your phone at a card, after which MarketDex tries to recognize the exact card, set, card number and variant.
Next, you will get instant price information, so you do not need to search for the same card manually on different websites.
The app currently supports more than 52,000 cards from over 400 sets and focuses on the launch mainly on English and Japanese Pokémon cards.

Pokémon Scan cards with AI
One of the most important features of MarketDex is the built-in card scanner.
Take a photo of a Pokémon card with your phone and the app tries to identify it automatically. Not only the name, but also the specific set and variant.
This can be particularly useful for cards with many different versions.
After recognizing the card, you can immediately proceed to the available market information.

Current Pokémon map prices
After scanning a card MarketDex shows different price data.
Recent copies sold on eBay are taken. In addition, the app offers price information from Cardmarket, including average, trend and low prices.
This allows you to compare different market data in one place.
MarketDex furthermore supports prices of graded cards from among others:
- PSA
- BGS
- CGC
- TAG
- ACE
- SGC
For collectors who regularly buy or sell tickets, this can be a quick way to get an indication of the current market value.

View last sold cards on eBay
An interesting feature is the integration of recent eBay sales prices.
MarketDex can show the last copies of a card sold. This is particularly useful for cards where the asking price on Cardmarket or eBay can differ considerably from the price for which cards are actually sold.
By looking at several recent sales side by side a better picture of what buyers actually pay for a card at the time.
Is a Pokémon trade fair?
MarketDex also contains a Trade Evaluator.
This allows you to add cards to both sides of a trade. The app then compares the total market value of both sides.
This can be useful, for example, when you want to exchange multiple cards against each other at a Pokémon fair or Trade Night.
Of course, the value of a trade ultimately remains personal. Condition, popularity and how much someone likes to have a certain card all participate, but the price comparison gives an objective starting point.
AI grading of Pokémon cards
MarketDex additionally has an AI grading function.
You will photograph the front and back of your card. Optionally, close-ups of the four corners can also be added.
The software subsequently looks at components such as:
- Centering
- Angles
- Border
- Surface
This results in an estimated grade and an indication of how certain the software of that assessment is.
It is important to stress here that the AI grade does not replace any official PSA, BGS or CGC grade. MarketDex describes the function itself as a tool to assess a card in advance before you decide to send it to a grading company.
Recognize Fake Pokémon cards
Another striking feature is the Fake Card Identifier.
Counterfeit cards are becoming more convincing and are therefore difficult to recognize for beginners. MarketDex analyzes a scanned card for features that may indicate a counterfact card.
The feature can be an additional tool when buying or exchanging Pokémon cards.
As with any automatic check, it remains sensible to carry out additional checks on expensive cards themselves.

Check for stolen graded bibs
For collectors of graded cards MarketDex has another interesting security feature.
With the Graded Slab Checker a certification number can be checked to see if a bib is registered as lost or stolen.
Especially when purchasing more expensive PSA and other graded cards this can be an extra check before making a purchase.
Vendor Mode for Pokémon vendors
Where MarketDex distinguishes itself from many traditional Pokémon card scanners is the comprehensive Vendor Mode.
This mode has been specifically developed for merchants, shops and sellers on Pokémon exchanges.
You can set the percentage of the market value at which you want to buy cards.
Suppose you buy as vendor cards at 70% of market value, MarketDex can directly calculate the corresponding purchase price.
That saves a lot of manual calculation during busy trade fairs.

Buy multiple cards at once
Vendor Mode furthermore supports sessions where multiple cards can be added simultaneously.
A purchase percentage can be set per card and the market value can be adjusted manually if necessary.
For example, you can offer a higher percentage for desired cards than for cards that sell less easily.
Keep track of sales and purchases
MarketDex can also track transactions.
Vendors can register their purchases and sales and afterwards view how much was bought and sold during a stock exchange or certain period of time.
The data can then be exported to CSV.
You can filter on:
- Last 24 hours
- Last 7 days
- Last 30 days
- Self-chosen period
For traders who do a lot of transactions on stock exchanges, this can be a useful way to process the administration afterwards.
Who's MarketDex interested in?
MarketDex combines quite a few different functions in one app.
For collectors, the Pokémon card scanner, price information, trade calculator and AI grading interesting.
For active traders and vendors there are additional functions such as setting purchase rates, recording transactions, stock management and CSV exports.
MarketDex not only focuses on someone who occasionally wants to look up the value of a Pokémon card, but also on users who act more intensively in Pokémon TCG.
