Sometimes Pokémon pops up in places where you don't expect it at all. This weekend exactly happened when the White House used a Pokémon meme in a political post on social media.
In the picture a scene from a Pokémon game was used, combined with the slogan "Make America Great Again." The post soon went around on the internet and caused a lot of reactions, also from Pokémon itself.
Pokémon responds
The Pokémon Company indicated that they were not involved in the post and stressed that their characters and images are not intended for political messages. The company is deliberately trying to keep the Pokémon franchise neutral.
That's not so crazy. Pokémon is one of the largest entertainment brands worldwide and is followed by fans of all ages.
Fans' reactions
Online responses varied. Some saw it as a meme that got out of hand, while others felt that Pokémon should stay completely out of political discussions.
For many fans it certainly feels like a rather bizarre crossover. Pokémon that suddenly shows up in a political campaign post you do not see every day either.
Anyway, it shows how big Pokémon has become. Even outside the world of cards, games and anime it pops up everywhere.
